Spiritual Formation

We believe spiritual formation is the cornerstone of your complete education. It’s something we integrate with our campus experience, our curriculums and our community.

We are committed to the vision of our founder, David Lipscomb, who believed that spiritual growth and Bible study must be taught alongside rigorous academics for a full and rich education. The Office of Spiritual Formation works to facilitate the spiritual growth of our students and create an encouraging, Christ-centered community on campus.

Our office is here to support students in the development of their faith through weekly chapel, mentorship networks, and other services. We want to walk with you on your spiritual journey and help you better connect to our community.

Come visit us in the lower level of the Bennet Campus Center. We invite you to make an appointment to get to know us or to receive pastoral care

Our Spiritual Commitment to You

Our emphasis on spiritual formation goes beyond not only the walls of the classroom but also the walls of the campus. Lipscomb’s focus on church growth and the development of knowledgeable and faithful ministers has led to the creation of new resources in the College of Bible and Ministry. Our Institute for Christian Spirituality offers resources to local church leadership as well, to help in the spiritual formation of their congregations. Our mission programs are robust and expansive to include more than 60 mission trips around the world each year, sending out more than 950 students, faculty, staff and community members to serve in other nations.

Perhaps the most important aspect of Lipscomb’s commitment to spiritual formation is our intentional focus on developing an atmosphere that allows for your spiritual questioning and growth on our campus. Students are encouraged to ask questions, express doubts and challenge themselves spiritually to find their ministry, all within a safe environment that welcomes their uncertainty and champions their faithfulness.

Chapel

Chapel

Moments of spiritual retreat are common to almost all faiths. Lipscomb requires students to engage in spiritual reflection several times a week to practice the disciplines of worship, prayer and time in God’s Word, among others.

Lipscomb Mentoring Network (LMN)

Community is essential to spiritual formation. We connect participating freshmen with mentors in the Lipscomb community to gain support, encouragement, and spiritual guidance as they transition into life as a college student.

Spiritual Guidance

We maintain a staff of full-time professional ministers who lead activities such as chapel, small group studies, prayer sessions, leadership development and more. But beyond these more formal organized activities, the campus ministry staff is available 24/7 to help students with spiritual challenges, opportunities and growth.

More Ways to Connect with Our Community

Missions

We provide you with global opportunities to explore ministry and vocation as an expression of the Kingdom of God. We are witness that the Spirit is active and moving through short-term efforts and it is our hope that you will creatively utilize your unique gifts and passion as you share the gospel through service and ministry. Our long-term strategy ensures our volunteers go back year after year, joining the same communities, deepening relationships, and developing best practices for engagement.

Service Day

One of our most meaningful traditions is Service Day, where classes are canceled and schedules are cleared so all of Lipscomb can give back to Nashville.
