Not a Trip

Visiting our brothers and sisters in Mexico is always a humbling experience.
However, trying to sum up the week might be the most humbling part of all. I am so
honored to share our visit with you, but the hard part is that it’s not solely “our
visit”. It’s the Lord’s first of all, it’s for us 25, the people of Mexico’s, it’s yours who
read this, and the others we will share with. So how can I tell it all? How can I put to
words what the Lord did emotionally, spiritually, relationally, and behind closed

"This summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Perth, Australia and spend three full weeks serving with Lifestreams Church. During this time, I formed friendships that will last a lifetime and felt closer to God than ever before.

One of the best things about serving on a student team is seeing how beautifully God orchestrates them. With His intentional selection of each student with their specific passions and giftings, we were each able to serve the kids at Gateway during their Kids Take Over event.

Some were able to go back to their camp days cheering for their team in the Take That games while others helped kids express their creativity in Take One. All of us were able to show God’s love in the ways we knew best.

I was sitting in the Beaman library in mid-November when I received the email that I, along with three other nursing students and a pharmacy student, had been accepted on the May ‘23 medical mission trip to Malawi, Africa. I was full of excitement and a little nervous as the day we left grew closer.

Reflecting on all we have done in the past week I feel deeply blessed to have been a part of this journey and know that we will come back to the US with hearts full, spirits replenished, and a broadened perspective of God’s creation and all he has done for and through us. In addition to the projects completed and families served, we leave this experience having made meaningful and faith driven friendships that will continue for years to come.

Last night was cooler than it had been, and our team woke up having slept better. The better recovery was well received, because the team was still recovering from the work from yesterday. The main tasks for the day were filling in the ramps leading up to the bridge, preparing the deck planks, and installing the hanger boards that connect the deck to the cables. The morning was also spent finalizing and checking the cables. It was great to see people in the community of all ages excited about the progress on the bridge and excited to help.

It's been a quick eight days but they've been filled with wonderful memories. As I think back on the projects, I'm amazed at what we were able to accomplish.

It is no small task to try to recap this mission experience, but I believe I can speak for every member of the Lipscomb Volleyball Baja Missions team that we will remember this experience for the rest of our lives. I would like to first start out by thanking everyone who made this happen. Thank you to the people who gave financially for team members to go, lives were changed because of your generosity. Thank you to Pilar and Panfilo who quite literally were always there for us at the drop of a hat. They both were pictures of Jesus.

Considering how exhausted the team and community was from a long concrete pour yesterday, today was different from our normal routine. We had a full day of travel through the region, being blown away by the outstanding natural beauty and wonders of winding country roads. We traveled just like the locals by fully filling the cab and beds of two small four door pickups, which added to the adventure.
