Medical Nutrition Therapy, Health Promotion and Wellness, or Sports Nutrition

The Lipscomb Dietetic Internship Program is competitive and comprehensive, with concentrations available in either medical nutrition therapy, health promotion and wellness, or sports nutrition. The internship consists of approximately 39 weeks of rotations in clinical, outpatient, community, wellness, and foodservice/management settings of dietetics in the Middle Tennessee area (drive time expected up to 1 hour for some rotations) as well as concentration experiences and opportunities to participate in professional meetings. Beginning with the 2017-18 cohort, the program will offer ten positions for medical nutrition therapy, six for the sports nutrition, and four for the health promotion and wellness concentrations.  These concentrations will provide ten to twelve weeks of focused experience beyond the basic curriculum, but within the 39 week program.

Lipscomb University currently accepts 20 interns during the spring match. We have experienced a 100% graduation rate and 88% first time RD exam pass rate over a 5 year period to date. The 2014 and 2015 cohorts have had 100% first time RD exam pass rates.  The Lipscomb Internship is excited to have partnered with over 38 different healthcare and community organizations where practicum experiences are completed. Internship orientation, assigned graduate classes and practicum rotations make up the program which begins in early August and ends mid-May.

The program internship fee pays for interns to attend the annual Food and Nutrition Conference of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), the Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (TAND) Spring Meeting, and an RD exam workshop offered by Breeding & Associates, as well as other workshops and opportunities that become available each year. Graduate school tuition for 2017-18 will be $985 per credit hour (x 3 hours) equaling $2,995 and the internship fee will be $9,500.  Total cost for the 2017-18 program year except for living costs, travel costs, textbooks, supplies, and the optional graduate practicum credit will be $12,495.
