Scott Sager - 2021 Summer Celebration

Following a year without it due to COVID health and safety protocols, Lipscomb's Summer Celebration is back with both virtual and in-person elements.

Summer Celebration 2021 will take place throughout the months of June and July, centered on a pair of programs set to serve and equip spiritual leaders.

"Out of Exile: Rethinking and Renewing the Post-COVID Church" will arrive as an email each Sunday afternoon of the summer. It will include a video from trusted voices and exciting new speakers.

Randy Harris will kick off the summer on June 6th with a timely message that will encourage spiritual leaders to "rethink and renew" their personal devotion to God before worrying about rethinking or renewing the church.

Out of Exile

Harris, a former longtime instructor in the Department of Bible, Missions, and Ministry at Abilene Christian University and spiritual director for the school's College of Biblical Studies, has written or co-written several books, including Daring Faith, Living Jesus, and Life Work. He is known for offering unique council to help spiritual leaders lead in the manner of Jesus.

Future speakers slated for later this summer include Buddy Bell, Jeff Walling, Robert Gardenhire, Orpheus Heyward, Mark Lanier, Kyle Idleman, Rick Rusaw, Matt Reagan, and Steve Gladen.

"Disciple-Making: The Core Mission of the Church" will occur as a "Disciple-Maker's-athon" Wednesday evenings in June from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Nashville-area congregations. The event will occur live at various churches, but you may also attend in person. The event will be filmed each evening and then packaged for distribution to churches as a 4/5-week curriculum which churches may use for a mid-week study.

The first 200 in-person attendees each night receive a free copy of the just-released book, "Disciple-Making: The Core Mission of the Church" by Scott Sager and Bobby Harrington. The resource book was released this summer in partnership with Renew.Org. This 80-page book for church leaders breaks down disciple-making into five easy-to-digest chapters complete with discussion questions for small groups.

The schedule for Disciple-Making will be as follows:

  • June 2ndScott Sager speaking at the Hendersonville Church of Christ
  • June 9th: Dave Clayton speaking at the Church of Christ in Green Hills
  • June 16: Hosted at Fourth Avenue Church of Christ with Bobby Harrington & Scott Sager
  • June 23: Hosted at the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ
