News - Chamber Orchestra

On Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. A Cappella Singers, Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra will perform together in Collins Auditorium with Travis Academy.

The A Cappella Singers is the premiere choir of the School of Music at Lipscomb University, and rehearses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This ensemble is open by audition to all Lipscomb Students, and Music Majors, Non-Majors, and Music Minors may receive a scholarship for their participation. Each fall, the choir prepares for its annual recruiting tour, which consists of concerts at churches and schools throughout the United States. The A Cappella Singers also prepares Christmas music for a yearly performance with Nashville recording artist Amy Grant at one of Lipscomb’s special winter traditions, Lighting of the Green.

The University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Ben Blasko, is dedicated to performing high-quality literature ranging from old favorites to the avant-garde. The Wind Ensemble schedules two concerts each semester, and also performs in combination with the choral groups for special events. The demanding dynamic of a small wind ensemble provides a challenge to the student interested in a music major with an emphasis in performance, or who simply enjoys playing wind music. Students who participate in Wind Ensemble may also be eligible to perform in the Vanderbilt Commodores marching band.

Lipscomb University's Chamber Orchestra presents a concert of works for strings each semester. The orchestra is also combined with winds for the musical production each fall semester and for other special programs.
