15.  Will any of my gifts to the academy be used for projects at Lipscomb University?

1.  How long is this fundraising campaign?

We are seeking three-year pledges (2013, 2014, and 2015) in this first phase of a larger vision for Lipscomb Academy.

2.  If our long term goal is to move into new middle and high school buildings, why are we investing in our current facilities?

We want to bring our present facilities up to a standard that reflects our commitment to education today. The new desks and technology can easily be moved to a new facility in the future.

3.  I’ve heard about the $10 Million gift to the academy, so where is that money?

This generous gift is given specifically to the academy and is currently in the form of undeveloped premium real estate. Once this asset is developed and sold, it will then generate the cash that can be used for the future of Lipscomb Academy. The proceeds of this gift will be realized in a future phase of the long range campaign for the academy.

4. I attended the gala in March 2012 and saw plans for construction of a new high school and middle school.  Does this campaign include building any of those facilities?

This campaign will help set the foundation for future efforts to fund the construction of the new middle and high school buildings. Phase I of this campaign does not build either of those facilities.

5.  When do we plan to move the middle school to the elementary campus and build a new high school?

The timing for this will be dependent on the funds raised and when that money is given. We do not plan to make this move until after this phase of the campaign.

6.   What’s a “collaborative learning classroom?”

These classrooms will feature state-of-the-art technology that will help our students learn in new and fresh ways. Some of the technology in these rooms is being leased, allowing flexibility to update the rooms as new ideas and tools are developed.  These rooms will also enable us to test new initiatives prior to making a school-wide investment that may not serve our students in the long term.

Along with the technology, new mobile furniture designed for easy formation of small groups or teams will enhance the learning experience. These two factors, combined with a refreshing of the space through paint and improved lighting, will create a setting that is conducive to creative learning.

7.  What is the timeline for all of the projects to begin?

When gifts to fund a project are in hand, we will begin work on that project immediately.

8.  I see lots of projects in the campaign.  What are the top priorities?

All of the projects are priorities, but realizing we cannot do everything at once, we have attempted to list the projects in the order of their importance to us as a school.

9.  Do you plan to borrow money for construction?

Our goal is not to borrow money for any of the projects in this campaign. However, Lipscomb University may provide some short-term funding for us in the event that a project is expected to be completed and pledges won’t be fully paid by the completion date.  This would likely be no more than a few months of funding.

10.  Why should I give beyond what I pay in tuition?

The reality for every private school is that tuition only covers a portion of the cost of operating a school.  Any improvements beyond maintenance, including new programs or new facilities, must be funded with gifts beyond the cost of tuition.

Our school was built by the generosity of alumni, donors and friends, and we are receiving the benefit of their investment.  It is now our turn to make that same type of investment not only for our children, but also for the next generation of future academy students.

11.  What is the annual fund?

This unrestricted fund provides budgetary support that makes the entire Lipscomb Academy experience possible and helps keep our tuition very competitive. Our budgeted annual fund for this current year is

$250,000

12.  Can I designate my giving?

Yes. You may designate your gift to any particular area about which you feel most passionate. As a reminder, an undesignated or unrestricted gift is the most helpful as it allows us to combine monies given to accomplish the overall goals for the school.

If gifts are designated to a particular project and it is not fully funded, then your ability to make an impact may be delayed until the entire project is funded.

13.  How can I give?  Is my gift tax deductible?

Pledges made over time as well as one time gifts are welcome.  Every gift toward these priorities is fully tax deductible as allowed by IRS law.

14.  I also give to Lipscomb University.  Can I make one gift or pledge and split it up between the university and the academy?

Yes.  We realize some of our donors also want to support Lipscomb University. We are more than happy to help make your giving easy and accomplish your goals as a donor. We want to help you experience the joy of giving.

15.  Will any of my gifts to the academy be used for projects at Lipscomb University?

While the academy and Lipscomb University fall under one institutional umbrella, any gifts made to Lipscomb Academy will be used solely for Academy projects.
