Lipscomb was ranked 218 of the 399 institutions in the “Best National Universities” category, which consists of 211 public, 180 private and eight for-profit institutions, “that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees.” There are two tiers in this listing, and Lipscomb is ranked in the first tier, which puts it in a group of elite institutions such as Princeton, Harvard, the University of Chicago, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Duke and Notre Dame.

In the 2020 guide, Lipscomb University is also ranked as an A+ Schools for B Students and Lipscomb’s undergraduate engineering program has been ranked #110 in the nation for a non-doctoral degree engineering program.

U.S. News considers up to 15 measures of academic quality in its ranking, each with varying percentages that contribute to an institution’s overall score. In this year’s ranking Lipscomb University increased its score in the following categories: overall score, peer assessment score, predicted graduation rate, actual graduation rate, percentage of classes of 50 or more students, student-to-faculty ratio and first year students in Top Ten percent of high school class.

This is the latest recognition of the quality and growth of Lipscomb University in recent years. Just last month, the Chronicle of Higher Education named Lipscomb University the tenth fastest-growing private doctoral university in the nation and the fastest-growing in Tennessee. The Chronicle report is based on a study of enrollment data from fall 2007 through fall 2017 during which the institution experienced an enrollment growth of 69.2 percent.

“There are a number of measures of the perceived quality of an institution,” said L. Randolph Lowry, president of Lipscomb University. “Rankings such as the annual U.S. News Best Colleges ranking is one method of evaluating an institution’s quality and success. And we are pleased to be placed in the top tier of institutions in the country. But more important than these rankings by outside organizations is the work our faculty, staff and administrators do each and every day to educate, inspire, mentor and lead our students and to see them successfully pursue their life and career goals after they leave our campus. That is a true measure of the tremendous, life-changing impact Lipscomb University has on its students.”

Lipscomb joined the ranks of the nation’s top institutions in 2016 when it was reclassified from the Regional Universities-South category to a Carnegie Foundation doctoral/professional university, and placed among only 9.6 percent of schools in the nation. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Lipscomb University offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees.

This is the latest recognition for Lipscomb University’s innovation and leadership in higher education. Just last month, the Chronicle of Higher Education named Lipscomb the tenth fastest-growing private doctoral university in the nation and the fastest-growing in Tennessee based on a study of enrollment data from fall 2007 through fall 2017 during which the institution experienced an enrollment growth of 69.2 percent. Over the summer, the university has also received a number of other accolades and recognition including: the College of Education’s undergraduate secondary teacher preparation program was once again named one of the top in the country by the National Council on Teacher Quality; the Bachelor of Social Work degree program was ranked No. 1 in Tennessee by socialworkdegree.org; the university was named a 2019-20 College of Distinction; Lipscomb was named to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s list of the 400 Best College Values for 2019; RNCareers.org ranked Lipscomb University one of the best nursing schools in the nation and No. 6 in Tennessee; and Lipscomb ranked fourth in the nation in the TheBestSchools.org’s 20 Best Online Bachelor's in Organizational Leadership Programs 2019 ranking.
