Lipscomb Conversations program discusses threats to national community Oct. 4

Lipscomb University's Conversations Program kicks off its 2005-06 series Tues., Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.
David French, a 1991 graduate of Lipscomb, will speak on "Irreconcilable Differences: Partisan Division and the Great National Divorce." He will be looking at three trends which pose great threats to our national community, according to Steve Prewitt, associate provost.
Since leaving Lipscomb, French has distinguished himself in the national arena of the law and politics. After leaving Lipscomb, he received a law degree from Harvard Law School. After practicing law in New York City, he taught at Cornell Law School. He later served as counsel for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's Religious Freedom Crisis Team.
In addition, French serves as president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (www.thefire.org) in Philadelphia, Penn. A former editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, David has published three books, South Pacific Journal (co-written with his wife Nancy), Guide to Religious Liberty on Campus and A Sense for Justice (a non-fiction work about his work with constitutional law issues relating to religious freedom and expression). He has also served as a commentator on various national television and radio news shows. He currently lives with his wife, Nancy Anderson French, also a Lipscomb alum, and their two children in Philadelphia.
