For more than two decades, the Lipscomb Community Chorus has offered an opportunity for individuals who enjoy singing to work on new music and to be a part of a chorus.

The Lipscomb Community Chorus will begin its 22nd season Jan. 14, 2019, with its first rehearsal. The chorus is an a cappella ensemble, and anyone who is interested in being part of this group is invited to participate. Auditions are not required. The chorus is led by Robert King, director of fine arts and of the high school choirs at Lipscomb Academy.

Rehearsals begin Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Lipscomb Academy Chorus Room in Harding Hall, located on the Lipscomb Academy campus at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. The season will culminate with a concert March 10 at the Otter Creek Church of Christ building located at 409 Franklin Road in Brentwood at 4 p.m. along with the Lipscomb Academy High School choruses.

The 2019 rehearsals (all Mondays) will be Jan.14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25, and March 4. There is no membership fee to participate.

“The singing of a cappella sacred music by choruses has long been an important part of the Lipscomb community,” said King. “Individuals who love to sing have always found here a place to share that talent with each other in choral ensembles. That is why LUCC was formed in 1997. Those who always wanted to sing in a chorus can join with those who have done so before and want to continue that love for choral music.”

“I would especially enjoy seeing Lipscomb high school alums come back to the old chorus room to make music again, but no experience or prior Lipscomb connection required. All are welcome,” said King.

King came to Lipscomb in 1984. His wife, Donna, is a faculty member in the Lipscomb University School of Music. He is also one of the worship leaders for the Harpeth Hills Church of Christ and serves as director of the Nashville Youth Choir, part of the Belmont University School of Music Academy program.
