Lipscomb, Amy Grant kick-off holiday season with 19th annual Lighting of the Green Nov. 28

Community invited to FREE concert, festivities to celebrate the start of holiday season; one of the season’s first tree-lightings in Nashville.

The Lipscomb University community is celebrating the 19th anniversary of its traditional start to the holiday season with beloved Nashville entertainer Amy Grant and special friends at the annual Lighting of the Green. This year’s edition is set for Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the area outside Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena.

Joining Grant this year for the 19th annual Lighting of the Green will be special surprise musical guests along with Lipscomb’s ensemble Sanctuary and Gospel Choir and choirs from Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the FREE concert to follow at 6 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Lipscomb Dining Services in the Allen Arena Mall area and in Lipscomb’s Bennett Campus Center (Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Local Eats, Boar's Head Deli, Uncle Dave’s Deli and Wild Blue Asian Fusion) and Student Activities Center (Freshens). 

Merry Marketplace, a collection of holiday vendors who donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit Associated Women for Lipscomb scholarships to Lipscomb, is also a traditional feature of Lighting of the Green festivities. The Marketplace will take place in the North Lobby of Allen Arena on the Gold Level Concourse beginning at 4 p.m. Free pictures with Santa begin at 4:30 p.m. in McQuiddy Gymnasium located in the North Lobby of Allen Arena. The evening will conclude with the lighting of a Christmas tree in the Lipscomb University quad along Belmont Boulevard. In the event of inclement weather, activities will take place as scheduled inside Lipscomb’s Allen Arena.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the concert. Handicap parking will be available in the Allen Arena parking garage. The event will be held rain or shine. Shuttles will run from 3-10 p.m. from Woodmont Hills Church,  3710 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37204.

Each year thousands of people turn out to see Grant host the free outdoor holiday concert featuring the Lipscomb student choruses along with Grant’s musical friends. Through the past decade, the holiday concert has featured a number of popular entertainers including Michael W. Smith, Jordan Smith, Brenda Lee, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Lennon & Maisy from the hit ABC show “Nashville,” Vince Gill, Danny Gokey, Nicole C. Mullen, Mandisa, Melinda Doolittle, CeCe Winans, Point of Grace, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Buddy Greene, Ruth McGinnis, Cody Fry, Jon and Valerie Guerra, David Phelps, Guy Penrod, Dave’s Highway and the Annie Moses Band.
