The Lipscomb University sibling trio, Daves Highway, released their rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” just in time for the holiday season. In the spirit of Christmas, the band is gifting a free download of the song.

The three recently performed at Lipscomb’s 14th annual Lighting of the Green ceremony, also featuring Amy Grant and other local artists, where the band played “All I Want for Christmas,” and gave a sneak peak of their new Christmas hit.

The Mississippi-based trio is composed of senior commercial music student’s Delaney, Zachary and Erika Daves. The trio made their first debut via their YouTube channel in 2009. Since then they have released an EP, two full-length albums, a Christmas album and now one Christmas single.

Renowned producer Ron Fair, a veteran A&R executive, teamed up with Daves Highway to assist their production of the Christmas classic.

“Working with Ron has been a dream come true. We’ve had so much fun working with him and getting to know him,” said Delaney Daves. “He’s amazing and we’re so thankful that he believes in what we’re doing. We actually met through Lipscomb. We attended a master class that he was teaching earlier this spring. We played him a song and started working together. Simple as that.”

Because the three band members are siblings, they possess a unique quality that most other bands do not: “blood harmony.” This term, coined in the South, describes melodies made by blood relatives that blend together in perfect harmony.

“We were all taught to talk by the same two people, our parents,” said Daves. “We grew up the same way, and we’ve shared a lot of similar experiences together. That plays a role in how we make music together. We relate to each other on a different level and that makes creating music together more meaningful.”

Daves said the band’s musical inspiration comes from their childhood. Growing up her family listened to a variety of music – the blues, country, rock, pop, Christian – and of course Christmas music.

“We’ve always loved Christmas music and particularly this song,” said Daves. “It makes you feel something deep down. It’s beautiful and the harmonies are so intense. It was really fun to record.”

Daves Highway has proven time-and-time again that you do not have to be a college graduate to begin your professional career. Scott Baker, director of marketing and community outreach for Lipscomb’s College of Entertainment & the Arts, said the college is extremely proud of the Daves and their work.

“This is exactly the kind of thing we are doing in the CEA: equipping and empowering our students to go out and make things,” said Baker. “You see it with our students in all arts areas, that they don’t have to wait until graduation to do cool things and to be a part of Nashville’s arts community. The Daves have really taken that ethos and run with it, and the results speak for themselves. I hope everyone adds this single to their Christmas playlists.”
