Andy Bleiler is a passionate arts educator whose career has spanned over thirty years as a teacher, designer, technician, director, and performer. He moved to Tennessee with his family from the Pacific Northwest in 2011, and has grown very fond of the people and places in Tennessee.
He has served as professor at Lipscomb University and Tennessee State University, as a teaching artist for the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, Scenic Designer for Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt Opera Theatre, Blackbird Theater Company, and Street Theatre.
His scenic design work has received critical acclaim in The Tennessean, Broadway World, The Nashville Scene, and The Nashville Examiner. Andy has won seven Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Meritorious Achievement Awards for Excellence In Design. He has been a guest speaker for the Tennessee Arts Academy, and has served on the Education Unit for Lipscomb’s teacher preparation program as well. He is a licensed K-12 Art and Theatre teacher in Tennessee.
At Lipscomb, Bleiler serves as Scenic Designer and Technical Director, as well as Adjunct Professor of Theatre. He teaches courses in design, technical theatre, scenic painting, drafting, rendering, visual history, as well as training students in set practicum. When he is not doing theatre, he paints landscapes, enjoys fishing and gardening, and will spend as much time as he can on his boat. Andy earned his B.F.A. from Drake University, his M.A. from Concordia University, and is currently finishing his M.F.A. in Design and Production at The University of Memphis.
