Charles Frasier has been an influential force in the accounting industry in Nashville for decades and has had an impact on generations of Lipscomb University accounting students, preparing professionals of integrity who are trained at the highest level to make a difference in the world around them.

The esteemed professor, mentor and friend to many has been recognized by the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) as the 2024 CPA of the Year as part of this year’s TSCPApex Awards. The CPA of the Year Award recognizes a CPA who has made outstanding contributions toward advancing the accounting profession.

“In honor and recognition of your distinguished contributions to your community and the CPA profession, the TSCPA selected you for the 2024 CPA of the Year Award,” wrote Kara N. Fitzgerald, TSCPA president and CEO in a letter to Frasier. “Your accomplishments reinforce the profession’s reputation for its commitment to the public good, and this award serves as recognition of the positive impacts resulting from your work. On behalf of the TSCPA Awards Committee and Society leadership, congratulations on your achievement and thank you for the leadership and dedication you have provided to TSCPA and the profession.”

Frasier graduated from Lipscomb in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He joined the Lipscomb business faculty in September 1971 and retired in 2018, though he continued to serve as an adjunct professor over the last few years. He was named chair of the department of accounting in 1986. The department expanded to include finance and economics in 2012. He was also a partner in Frasier, Dean and Howard (now Cherry Bekaert) from 1975-2010, a firm that provides audit and tax services, business planning and business development services. He holds the Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Master Teacher designations.

“Charles has had a tremendous impact on the lives of countless students and has done so with a quiet and humble spirit,” said Ray Eldridge, dean of the College of Business. “This is a well-deserved award that brings great credit to Charles, the College of Business and Lipscomb University.”

This is the latest recognition of Frasier’s influence on others. Among other accolades, the Charles E. Frasier Chair of Accounting was established in 2015 in Lipscomb’s College of Business by a group of Frasier’s former students who are now leaders in Nashville’s business community. According to the founding agreement, the chair was established “in recognition of the influence of Charles E. Frasier in the lives and careers of the donors and countless other former students, on the accounting program’s recognized heritage of excellence and on the accounting profession at large.”

Frasier will be recognized at the 93rd annual TSCPA convention and meeting June 10-13. Last year Perry Moore (’81), who holds the Charles E. Frasier Chair of Accountancy and is director of Lipscomb’s Master of Accountancy program, received the TSCPA’s 2023 TSCPApex Special Recognition Award.

Founded in 1904, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants is the professional association of CPAs in Tennessee, with more than 10,000 members statewide. Its mission is to drive the success of its members and the communities they serve through connections, professional development and advocacy.
