Renovated Student Activities Center more welcoming to students, community

The Student Activities Center (SAC) has always offered plenty of healthy fitness opportunities for the Lipscomb community, but after this summer, it will offer those fitness options in style!

A $600,000 renovation this summer will bring new chic to the fitness center with an enlarged lobby area, new floors, new TVs, additional space and all new exercise equipment.

The SAC is used for student intramurals and various community fitness
programs and tournaments
(photo prior to renovation).
“I think members and visitors to the SAC will be really impressed with the improvements,” said Emily Harris, director of campus recreation. “Now our facilities really match the quality programs we are providing through personal training, group exercise classes, special opportunities like Adventure Boot Camp or martial arts and intramural programs.”

The renovation also makes this fall the perfect time to check out the community memberships and group fitness programs available to community members. One-month, four-month and one-year memberships are available for community members as well as per-class pricing on group exercise classes including Spinning®, Zumba, hip hop and aerobics.

Students, alumni, faculty and staff, and families of Lipscomb employees can take advantage of price discounts for specific fitness services and memberships.

The Student Activities Center offers a work-out experience in a Christian environment with convenient early and late hours for the working crowd. The facility includes racquetball courts, a cardio and weight room, an aerobics room, a Spinning studio, a walking track and gymnasium. Additional exercise equipment will be available throughout the facility.

Both students and community members can also take advantage of personal training, nutrition courses and wellness consultations.

Located adjacent to the SAC is the Lipscomb Racquet Club, based in the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center. The center was also improved this summer with the completion of the locker rooms, said Harris. The Lipscomb Racquet Club offers students and the community programs for youngsters and adults, cardio tennis, tournaments, social events and private lessons.

Memberships for community members range from $135 to $625 for individuals or families depending on time frame. Discounted memberships are available for students, alumni, campus school students and their families, members of the Green Hills YMCA and Lipscomb faculty and staff.

The renovation is expected to be complete by early September, but group fitness classes are tentatively scheduled to begin Aug. 29. Contact Emily Harris at 966.5851 for more information on the renovation and various membership prices for both the Student Activities Center and the Lipscomb Racquet Club.

Facility hours, membership prices and group fitness prices are also available at campusrecreation.lipscomb.edu and racquetclub.lipscomb.edu. Everyone may try out his or her first group fitness class for free.
