The Lipscomb men’s golf team has the highest rated freshmen class in the nation, according to Golfstat.

Golf player“This is exciting news for the Lipscomb golf program,” coach Will Brewer said. “It is another confidence booster that we are getting closer to where we want to be. Timing is everything.

“This verifies that you can play as a freshman. If you are a good enough player when you get to Lipscomb and come in ready to compete, you will play.”

The freshmen have had an outstanding fall campaign, leading Lipscomb to three top five finishes and four top 10.

“I am extremely pleased with the freshmen class,” Brewer said. “They obviously came in ready to compete and it has showed.”

The Bisons freshmen have an average score of 72.91 over 39 rounds played.

Sydney Chung leads the team with a 72.75 average over 12 rounds of play. Mikey Feher is just behind with a 72.8. The two have combined for five top 10 finishes and low rounds of 65, 67, 67 and 68.

Feher won Atlantic Sun Player of the Week after a fourth place finish in the APSU Intercollegiate.

Stoney Crouch, Dowling Armstrong and Joshua Enderle round out the freshmen class. Crouch and Armstrong each have stroke averages of 75.7 while Enderle has yet to play in a match.

“Sydney and Mikey have competed well all season,” Brewer said. “Stoney and Dowling have played well at times and Joshua was injured and unfortunately we had to redshirt him.”

Golfstat rated the freshmen with the Division 1’s highest relative strength score at 410. 450. McNeese State was rated second with a relative strength score of 388.757. That number is based on how the freshmen across the country fared against their strength of schedule.

“This ranking helps get our confidence on the right track,” Brewer said. “We are trying to rebrand the program by branching out and getting strong players. Our facilities are getting better, we are traveling better, our administration is behind us and everybody believes in what we are trying to do here at Lipscomb.

“It is a process like anything else and we are still a ways away, but we are making the right steps.”

Lipscomb will wrap up its fall campaign Nov. 4-5 when it travels to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the Osprey Eagle Collegiate.

“I am so pleased with the effort, focus and desire of the whole team wanting to compete,” Brewer said. “We haven’t put it together for 54 holes just yet, but it will come.

“I have a great group of guys with integrity who want to grow. It is an exciting time to be a part of Lipscomb golf.”
