With the forecast for possible wintry weather in the Nashville area Sunday night and Monday, the Lipscomb University community is reminded of the Class Schedule Disruption Policy that is followed in any situation that impacts the normal operation of classes.

According to the Class Schedule Disruption Policy, except in the rarest of instances, Lipscomb University does not cancel classes or close offices. Because the academic calendar does not allow for missed classes, instructors are expected to meet classes as scheduled. If a situation arises in which an instructor needs to cancel a specific class session, students will be notified by the instructor via email at the earliest possible time. Students and employees are encouraged to use their discretion and caution when traveling to campus in inclement weather.

Should an unusual event (weather-related or otherwise) occur that requires disruption of the entire Lipscomb University class schedule, students will be notified via multiple media including the Lipscomb homepage, Bison Alert system and local media among other methods. Employees are designated as essential personnel by their supervisors would report to work as scheduled.

Students living in Lipscomb’s residence halls as well as those in offices on campus can take measures to ensure the facilities stay as warm as possible during the extremely cold temperatures that are forecast for the next few days in the Nashville area.

“One of the most helpful things folks can do in their dorm rooms and in offices is to make sure all windows are closed,” says Jeff Wilson, director of service operations and retail operations at Lipscomb. “HVAC units can freeze and burst when windows are left open or cracked in extreme cold as we are experiencing today.”

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of Middle Tennessee beginning at 9 p.m. CST Sunday, Feb. 15, through 6 p.m. CST, Monday, Feb. 16.
