Longtime school administrator and education veteran Greg J. Glenn has been appointed Lipscomb Academy head of school, President L. Randolph Lowry announced today.

Greg GlennGlenn is the head of school at Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas, a position he has held since 2007. Prior to that appointment, he served the school as a faculty member, athletic director and varsity boys’ basketball coach for 14 years.

“As the largest private preK-12 institution in Middle Tennessee, Lipscomb Academy has had a profound impact on generations of students for more than 120 years,” said Lowry. “Greg Glenn brings unique expertise that will be able to build on this strong foundation as well as a fresh perspective that will help Lipscomb Academy continue to make a profound difference in the lives of future generations for years to come.”

As the only university-run secondary school in the area, Lipscomb Academy governance falls under the board of Lipscomb University and its senior leadership.

During Glenn’s tenure as head of school at Westbury Christian, a private, college-preparatory K3 through 12 school, he led the institution to a record enrollment and launched a $12 million capital campaign, among other achievements.

“Lipscomb Academy is known as a welcoming school that has a proven track record of preparing its students well for college and beyond with an academic program that infuses faith as central throughout all disciplines and in student life,” said Glenn. “The mission and witness of a Christian institution like Lipscomb Academy are more important than ever. I look forward to joining a leadership team that is committed to fully preparing future generations to be a blessing to the world.”

As head of school, Glenn will lead an academy leadership team that includes the elementary, middle and high school principals as well as other administrative personnel.

“Greg is a proven leader known for fully leveraging the expertise of his administrative team to continually find excellent approaches to delivering a top-quality, faith-based education,” said Candice McQueen, senior vice president and dean of Lipscomb University’s College of Education. “His leadership of the Lipscomb Academy leadership team will not only continue to make our school a place that offers quality academics and Christian education, but will seek to strengthen the connection to Lipscomb University and other resources in the community that will enhance the education of its students.”

McQueen now oversees the school as a senior vice president for the university and led the national search to name a new head of school to succeed Michael P. Hammond, who announced earlier this year that he would return to the classroom at Lipscomb University in May.

Before joining the faculty and administration at Westbury Christian School, Glenn was on faculty at Montgomery Academy, in Montgomery, Ala., where he also served as varsity boys’ basketball coach. Prior to that, he was on faculty at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tenn., and at Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla.

Glenn is involved in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as president of the Texas Christian Schools Association from 2011-13 and as co-chair of the Striving for Excellence committee of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. He is also a member of the Bellaire-Southwest Rotary Club and Southwest 2000, a revitalization program for the communities of southwest Houston. Glenn has served as a deacon at Westbury Church of Christ since 1994.

The Miami, Fla., native has a Bachelor of Arts degree in math education from Lipscomb University, where he was a member of the 1986 NAIA national champion Bison basketball team. He also holds a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from Houston Baptist University.

Glenn and his wife, Loa (Collinson), a 1985 Lipscomb University graduate, have three children, Amber, a 2010 Lipscomb University graduate; Richard, a student at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock; and Cody, a junior at Louisiana State University.

Glenn will begin his post at Lipscomb Academy in July.
