Lifelong Learning & Travel

Lifelong Learning Program

The Lifelong Learning Program offers people of retirement and semi-retirement age an opportunity to expand knowledge and explore new ideas in LLL Fall 2014 Brochure Frontan informal, noncompetitive environment. Learning occurs in a pleasant social atmosphere in classes with one’s peers. There are no exams and no grades or credits. There is no previous educational requirement. Rather, the opportunity exists to interact with friends old and new. This is a time when you may fulfill many of your dreams.

Fall term begins in September with two five-week sessions ending in November. Spring term begins in February ending in April. The classes meet for one and a half hours in the daytime once a week for five weeks.

Prove to yourself and the younger community that intellectual curiosity endures and that learning and study provide unending sources of pleasure for those fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of them. You cannot do everything each session, but you can begin to do some of the things which excite and energize you. Select one or more of the courses offered, and engage in that ongoing work of learning. This year some courses will be held in various areas of campus. Click here to go to a printable map of the campus, and when you arrive on campus look for the map kiosks located at the various entryways to campus and pick up a printed map.

Travel Opportunities

Travel with or without a notebook!

Each year, Lipscomb offers several custom-designed, U.S.-based  “travel learning” trips primarily for alums and friends. These “Summer Hostels” and other trips typically include activities not generally available to the public such as in a recent trip to the Northeast led by a noted artist alum who opened doors to artists’ studios and homes that simply are not available to the general public—or almost anyone else!

Plus, we’re now going global!  Lifelong Learning’s new certificate program combines introductory classroom instruction followed by an experiential professor-guided tour for a “deep dive” into a specific area of the globe. Participants who complete required courses prior to the trip can earn a certificate related to their study. (Coursework is not required for travel, just for the awarding of a certificate.)

Here is a full itinerary for the next trip. For deadlines and other information, call 615.966.6216 or email
