A collaboration of public, private and nonprofit leaders working together to improve the lives of Tennesseans as they age and care for the aging.

Governor's Summit Recap

On June 21, 2011, Lipscomb University in partnership with the Tennessee Governor's Office held the first ever Tennessee Governor's Summit on Aging.  The summit brought together public, private and nonprofit leaders to discuss ways to improve the lives of Tennesseans as they age. In this invitation only event, participants were challenged by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to think creatively in finding ways to better serve seniors. Notable speakers for the event include Maddy Dychtwald, author and co-founder of Age Wave, and Sandy Markwood, CEO of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Summit participants were placed into working groups to discuss specific topics such as improvement of healthy aging, accessibility to care, a seamless delivery system, communication and public awareness.  The day convened with working groups providing feedback and sharing ideas from their conversations.
