Zac Cox Achieves “Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist” Certification



The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is an agency whose purpose is to recognize pharmacy specialties and certify pharmacists' knowledge and skills at the advanced practice level. The BPS recognizes 6 specialties, including pharmacotherapy. The Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) exam is a national exam administered annually at 43 separate sites to pharmacists who have at minimum 3 years of practice experience or completed a post-graduate residency. Of the 2,008 candidates sitting for the BCPS examination in 2010, 1,109 successfully achieved certification. Dr. Zac Cox, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, achieved the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist Certification. BPS Executive Director Dr. Richard J. Bertin congratulated the new specialists stating, "These individuals possess a level of training, experience, knowledge and skill that is deemed essential to providing advanced level pharmaceutical care. They have met a rigorous national standard.”
