Lipscomb hosts 'We Back Pat' Jan. 26

Lipscomb Athletics |

The Lipscomb men's and women’s basketball teams will honor long-time University of Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt with a “We Back Pat” event on Saturday, Jan. 26 as the Lady Bisons host Mercer at 4 p.m followed by the Bisons contest against the Bears at 6:30 p.m.

Summitt, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia in April 2011, and  her son Tyler have launched the Pat Summitt Foundation to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Lady Bisons head coach Greg Brown was an assistant for Summitt at Tennessee.

“Outside of my parents, Coach (Don) Meyer and Coach Summitt have been the greatest influences in my career, both personally and professionally,” Brown said. “Anything I can do to give back for what Coach Summitt has done for me, I look forward to it.”

The Lipscomb athletic department asks fans that attend the contest to wear the official “We Back Pat” shirt to the game. Shirts are $9 and can be purchased in the Athletic Department or at the men’s game versus Kennesaw State on Jan. 24. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation.

A limited number of shirts are available, so fans are encouraged to purchase early.

“A basketball game can bring awareness and an opportunity,” Brown said. “It is an opportunity to have an event, to get the message out and to raise money. Proceeds from the game, with tickets sold, will be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation.”

Summitt, who retired with a NCAA record 1,098 wins and just 208 losses in 38 years at the helm of the Lady Vols, won eight national championships and 16 SEC championships.

To purchase tickets visit http://www.BeHerdLU.com and use the promo code WeBackPat or call (615) 966-HERD (4373) and mention “We Back Pat” to have the entire purchase be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation.
