Sodexo food drive benefits Nashville's Second Harvest

The Lipscomb community has an opportunity to make the holiday season a little brighter by donating nonperishable food items this month as part of Lipscomb University’s dining service provider Sodexo’s national Helping Hands Food Drive.

Second Harvest Food Bank will be the recipient of all donations collected. The food drive is in conjunction with the university’s annual Lighting of the Green, during which visitors are asked to bring a canned good to donate to the food bank each year.

Elizabeth Wilson, director of marketing for Sodexo and Lipscomb Dining Services, said this is a great way for students, faculty and staff to give back to the community.

“This is a national Sodexo initiative that is geared toward giving back to the community,” said Wilson. “Lipscomb is a university that gives back to the Nashville community in many ways. So, this is a great fit. We want to help ensure that Second Harvest has the resources it needs to be able to provide food for people this time of year by holding this drive.”

The goal for the drive is to collect 2,500 pounds of food. Wilson said the items most needed include canned fruit and vegetables, soup, stew, peanut butter, canner chicken, tuna and cereal. Collection bins are located in Allen Arena, the Ezell Center, Collins Alumni Auditorium, Burton Health Sciences Center, Bennett Campus Center and in each of the residence hall lobbies.
