The Lipscomb University A Cappella Singers will partner with the West End United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in a performance of Beethoven’s Mass in C on March 25, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. This performance is part of West End’s Masterwork Series. The concert will be conducted by guest conductor Earl Rivers, the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
The West End United Methodist Church Chancel Choir is a nationally renowned ensemble that presents two concerts a year with orchestra, along with major repertoire weekly at the church’s 11:00 Service. The choir has made nine international tours and has sung for conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the American Guild of Organists. The choir is conducted by Dr. Matt Phelps, who also teaches as an adjunct at Lipscomb.
Dr. Earl Rivers is an internationally renowned conductor and pedagogue. He has served as a Professor of Choral Music at the College Conservatory of Music for over 30 years. His graduate conducting program was recognized by US News and World Report as one of the nation’s leading programs. For 20 seasons he was the music director of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati and has served as music director of Knox Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. He has guest conducted throughout Europe and Asia, was the artistic director of the 2012 World Choir Games, and is a recipient of Chorus America’s Michael Korn Founders Award for Development of the Professional Choral Art.
