E-waste Recycling Collection at Lipscomb Academy

E-waste Recycling Collection at Lipscomb Academy is in the past.

To celebrate America Recycles Day 2017, Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University are hosting household and e-waste collections on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The university will collect items on the Lipscomb University campus on University Park Dr., in front of Burton Health Science Center, on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The contact for this collection is Linda Phipps at linda.phipps@lipscomb.edu.

Lipscomb Academy will collect items at the elementary school campus at 4517 Granny White Pike, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The contact for this collection is Ginger Reasonver at ginger.reasonover@lipscomb.edu or 615-397-6837.

Household and electronic waste will be collected along with over-the-counter and prescription drugs and recyclable materials. Shred It will be on hand to accept and shred paper documents. ThriftSmart will also be accepting gently-used donations of clothing, shoes, housewares, linens, books and media, for resale in their nonprofit thrift stores. 100% of ThriftSmart's profits benefit local charities! Safe Haven Family Shelter will also earn gift card credit for all donations ThriftSmart collects through this event - $1 for every 10 lbs.

No TVs or CRTs larger than 32 inches will be accepted. Only one TV/CRT per car per day will be accepted. No liquid wastes of any kind as well as no white goods (including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, etc.) will be accepted.

  • Unused and out-of-date medications, both prescriptive and over-the-counter
  • Small batteries, alkaline and rechargeable (A, AA, AAA, C, D, 9-volt, button)
  • Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) & fluorescent tubes
  • Cell phones
  • Ink cartridges
  • Plastic bags (grocery store, department store, dry cleaning, etc.)
  • Empty personal-care containers, such as make-up, mascara, lipstick, and other hair care and skin care containers.
  • Used markers and ink pens of all kinds: dry erase, permanent, coloring, etc 
  • Aluminum cans
  • Plastic beverage bottles
  • Glass containers
  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard

E-waste items accepted include:?

  • Computers and Peripherals - Complete and partial systems (working or not), processors (CPUs), optical drives (CDROM, CDRW, DVD, etc), network and communications hardware (modems, routers, hubs, etc), drives (hard drives, floppy), keyboards, laptops, mice, monitors, network hardware (servers), printers, tape drives
  • Home Electronics - TVs (CRT, flat panel, plasma, etc), microwaves, mixers, phones (corded, cordless, and cellular), entertainment goods (VCRs, DVD players, radios and speakers but NO WHITE GOODS (including: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers). PROJECTION TVs WILL INCUR A $40 DISPOSAL FEE! 
  • Office Equipment - copy machines, fax machines, telephone systems (cordless, cellular, desk)
  • Security equipment
  • Cameras, recorders, alarms, VCR's, key pads
