Lipscomb to induct seven into the athletics hall of fame

Lipscomb University has announced its 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame class. The 2018 honorees are: Brent McNutt (Baseball), Wes Wilkerson (Baseball), Emily Pleasant High (Women’s Basketball), Sarah Marcrom McKamey (Women’s Basketball), Wade Tomlinson (Men’s Basketball), Marcus Bodie (Men’s Basketball) and Dr. Lynn Griffith (Coach). They will be honored at a ceremony on Nov. 10 during university homecoming activities.

"This year's Hall of Fame class is certainly an outstanding one,” said Lipscomb Director of Athletics Philip Hutcheson.  “With every passing year, Lipscomb Athletics has continued to set new records and reach new heights. But the success we've enjoyed is built on the foundation set by those who came before today's teams, and the seven inductees certainly did their part to help pave the way for today. 

“More importantly, each of them has continued to put into practice the lessons and values they learned here and have taken those on to benefit the communities of which they are a part. We're proud to honor them and to claim them as some of the best that Lipscomb Athletics has ever produced.”

Brent McNutt (Baseball) 1989-1992

  • Finished his illustrious career with a .388 batting average, a .467 on-base percentage, 33 home runs, 107 RBI, 88 walks, 76 stolen bases and 192 runs scored
  • The only player in program history to hit over .400 in multiple seasons (.436 in 1990 and .424 in 1992)
  • Named All-Conference, All-District and honorable mention All-American in his time as a Bison
  • Voted team MVP in 1992

Wes Wilkerson (Baseball) 1997-2000 

  • Outstanding two-way player who saw action in 183 games in his career
  • Batted .339 with 259 hits, 47 doubles, 38 homers and 213 RBI while scoring 189 runs
  • Pitched 70.1 innings over his final two seasons as a Bison with a 4.49 career ERA
  • Ranks second in Bison baseball history in career home runs and RBI
  • First Team NAIA All-American (2000)
  • TranSouth All-Conference (1999)

Emily Pleasant High (Women’s Basketball) 1993-97

  • Helped lead Lipscomb to a 123-27 record in her four years as a Lady Bison
  • In 143 career games she scored 1,484 points and grabbed 617 rebounds while making 42% of her field goals attempts
  • First Team NAIA All-American and All-TranSouth Conference (1996-97) averaging 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game
  • Led the Lady Bisons to the NAIA National Championship game (1993-94), NAIA Final Four (1994-95 and 1995-96), and the NAIA Sweet Sixteen (1996-97)
  • Guided Lipscomb to a 35-4 record in 1994-95 where the Lady Bisons captured the TCAC Tournament Championship after beating No. 1 Union to end its 43-game home win streak.

Sarah Marcrom McKamey (Women’s Basketball) 1993-97

  • Helped guide the Lady Bisons to an 82% winning percentage in her four years with a 123-27 record
  • Scored 1,461 points and collected 384 rebounds in 132 career games
  • Holds the program’s single-season 3-point percentage record after making 48%of her long ball attempts in 1995-96
  • Named All-Conference and third team NAIA All-American (1995-96)
  • Two-time All-National Tournament second team (1994-95 and 1995-96)
  • Led the Lady Bisons to the NAIA National Championship game (1993-94), NAIA Final Four (1994-95 and 1995-96), and the NAIA Sweet Sixteen (1996-97)
  • Guided Lipscomb to a 35-4 record in 1994-95 where the Lady Bisons captured the TCAC Tournament Championship after beating No. 1 Union to end its 43-game home win streak.

Wade Tomlinson (Men’s Basketball) 1986-1990

  • Led the Bisons to 139 wins in his four years – the most among all college basketball programs during that span
  • In each season as a Bison, Tomlinson helped guide Lipscomb to a No. 1 ranking in the NAIA
  • Ranks 11th on the all-time scoring chart for the Bisons with 1,792 points
  • Finished his time at Lipscomb with a 45.5% career mark from three-point range

Marcus Bodie (Men’s Basketball) 1986-1990

  • Was a key member in helping the Bisons win 139 games in four years – the most among all college basketball programs during that span
  • Recorded the most steals in college basketball history (440)
  • Recorded the most steals in college basketball history in a single season (175)
  • Holds the program record for steals in a game (10)
  • Totaled 747 assists as a Bison

Lynn Griffith (Coach) 1980-2001

  • Served Lipscomb Athletics for nearly 40 years as a coach and educator
  • Served as tennis head coach for 21 (1980-2001)
  • Compiled a 365-270 match record
  • Guided his teams to three Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference championships
  • Named TCAC Coach of the Year (1981-82, 1984-85, 1990)
  • Served as Lipscomb’s cross country coach from 1994-99 and placed a runner in the NAIA National meet each season
  • Voted TranSouth Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1997
  • Spent time as an assistant baseball coach and assistant athletic director for the Bisons
  • Instrumental in concept and construction of the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Activities Center on the Lipscomb Campus. The doors will open at 11.
