Haslam was elected to a second term as Governor of Tennessee on Nov. 4, 2014, with a landslide win. His re-election is the largest victory in the modern history of Tennessee.

Under Haslam’s administration, Tennessee has become a national front-runner in education, economic development, efficient and effective government and fiscal strength. Tennessee students are among the most rapidly accelerating in the country in terms of academic success. High school graduation rates have risen to their all-time highest.

Higher education has become more accessible than ever because Tennessee is the first state to offer two years of community college or technical school without tuition or fees. In 2013, Haslam began the Drive to 55 with the hope of increasing the number of Tennesseans with a postsecondary degree to 55 percent by 2025. Within a year, community colleges saw a 25 percent increase in first-time freshman enrollment and a 20 percent increase at technical schools. In 2015, the college attendance rate increased to 62.5 percent in 2015.

Haslam is pushing Tennessee to be a national leader in job growth. More than 400,000 net new private sector jobs have been created in Tennessee. Last year, Tennessee’s unemployment rate reached an all-time low and has consistently been close to that number since.

The Nashville Business Breakfast is a series that features business leaders speaking about topics with local economic impact.
