Trio of Bison programs earn APR national recognition

Lipscomb Athletics |

Three Lipscomb athletics programs earned public recognition by the NCAA on Wednesday for their exemplary academic performance.

The men’s and women’s golf and women’s basketball programs were each honored for their standing among the top 10 percent of academic performing teams in the country in their respective sports in the multi-year Academic Process Rate (APR) for the 2017-18 academic year.

The programs earned a perfect 1,000 multiyear APR score based on totals from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 academic years.

It was the first time in school history that three programs have earned the honor in one academic year.

Lipscomb programs have been honored 23 times previously.

The women’s basketball team leads the way with eight total APR awards, with this year’s honor being their second in a row.

Women’s golf is close behind with six awards, while the men’s golf team has earned four. Both golf programs have been selected in each of the past four seasons.

Among the other Lipscomb programs that have been honored, men’s cross country, men’s tennis, and softball have all been named to the APR awards list once, while the women’s tennis team has notched five awards.

For the past 13 years, NCAA APR has been used to measure academic achievement for all Division I sports teams. APR tracks academic progress each semester for each student-athlete on scholarship, accounting for eligibility, retention, and graduation, and providing a measure of each team's academic performance.
