Each year, Lipscomb University invites the community to participate in Resurrection Week, a series of on-campus events to commemorate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Beginning Monday, April 10, and concluding with an All-Campus Communion event on Easter Sunday, April 16, the theme for Resurrection Week 2017 is “Abundant Life: Grace upon grace."

This year's theme was inspired by the verses John 10:10 "...I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly" and John 1:16 "For from His fullness we have all received grace upon grace," says Nicole Eaton, women's campus minister.

“Our focus is on the full and abundant life that the Father offers us through Jesus,” said Eaton. “His unrelenting grace is multi-dimensional - it not only pardons and forgives, but also empowers us to live as new creations and to step into the fullness that He is inviting us into.”

Resurrection Week 2017, which is hosted by the Campus Ministry Office, begins tonight with a kick-off event titled “Dwell Worship.” Community members are invited to participate in a time of prayer, reflection and prepare for the week ahead at 7 p.m. in Flatt Amphitheatre.

On Tuesday, April 11, Chris Smith, preaching minister at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, will be the guest speaker for the weekly Gathering chapel service in Allen Arena at 10:55 a.m.

Lipscomb’s Student Government Association will also provide opportunities for Lipscomb students to intercede for others through prayer, with its annual Prayer in the Square event on Thursday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"The vision behind Prayer in the Square was to bring one of the most precious gifts we have been given, and not hide it away, but instead bring it to the center of our campus,” said Jackson Smith, SGA president. “It is incredible the ways that God shows up when we simply call on Him."

On Friday, April 14, a special Good Friday Gathering chapel will be held in Allen Arena at 11 a.m. and will feature Ken Durham, associate professor in the College of Bible & Ministry.

Resurrection Week 2017 will conclude with an All-Campus Communion service on Easter Sunday, at 7 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre.

“The purpose behind the All-Campus Communion event is to create a shared family moment on campus where we direct our hearts toward the foundations of our faith, Jesus' life, death and resurrection,” said Cyrus Eaton, director of the Joshua Project and male campus minister. “This is a space where students, staff, and faculty share the responsibility to lead one another as we reflect, rejoice and respond to gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Throughout the week, the Lipscomb community will also receive morning devotionals prepared by Lipscomb students, faculty and staff members to encourage each individual as they reflect on the cross.

“Our prayer for us as a family is that we do not miss the powerful invitation that Easter brings with the ‘familiar’ celebrations that we are all too used to, but that God gives each of us a deeper understanding of the abundant life we receive through the abundant grace we have been given in Jesus,” said the Campus Ministry Team in a campus-wide email.
