The Lipscomb University College of Liberal Arts & Sciences’s J.S Ward Society has announced its 2017-18 Ward Scholars.

Deion Sims, Savannah Blaylock and Hayden Hall are the 2017-18 Ward Scholars. The Ward Scholarship, Lipscomb’s most prestigious award given to students planning on pursuing a health science career, provides up to $10,000 annually towards student tuition.

Ward Scholars are selected through faculty nominations and a rigorous application process based on academic merit and overall involvement in the Lipscomb community.

Sims, a transfer student from Tusculum College and Columbia State Community College, is a Nashville native. He plans to attend medical school after taking a gap year following graduation with his undergraduate degree in order to gain essential clinical experiences, take the MCAT and to travel. Sims, who was named 2017-18 Bachelor of Ugliness, is currently working toward admission to a medical school in the Nashville area.

Blaylock, of Rockvale, Tennessee, has maintained excellent standing in her health science courses while working at a local pharmacy. She plans on attending pharmacy school after earning her biology degree and plans to pursue a career in nonprofit pharmacy practice.

A fourth-generation Lipscomb student, Hall is pursuing a degree in exercise science and plans to work as a physical therapy technician prior to attending graduate school. Hall said he dreams of working as a doctor of physical therapy in a clinical setting so that he may help his patients through a faith-based practice.

The J.S. Ward Society was created to encourage support for Lipscomb’s health sciences programs and to recognize those who have dedicated themselves to advancing Lipscomb’s mission of education and service. It is a society of like-minded professionals who want to “pay it forward” by helping the best and brightest among the university’s students to reach their dreams in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and allied health professions.
