Former Disney animator Aaron Blaise to headline animation lecture this Thursday, Feb. 8

Lipscomb University welcomes former Disney animator Aaron Blaise, animator for “The Lion King” and co-director of “Brother Bear,” for a special lecture hosted by the George Shinn College of Entertainment & Arts, on Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium. Known for his work animating hit feature films such as “The Rescuers Down Under,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Mulan” and “Pocahontas,” Blaise will discuss on how he “broke into” Disney during its second "Golden Age of Animation," moved up to the ranks of director and how he reinvented himself as an internationally known online art instructor renowned for his work in animation, character design, wildlife illustration and digital painting, during his lecture.
"Aaron Blaise is not only an accomplished animator, he's also a painter and storyteller,” said Naomi Bethel, a sophomore animation major at Lipscomb. “The dedication and love he has for his craft is amazing. I am so excited to meet him (again).”
Blaise has prided himself on his ability to create unique worlds and compelling characters through story and stunning visuals. Blaise’s love of drawing and painting animals is evident in everything he does and has gone on to become is the creator of creatureartteacher.com, a website dedicated to passing on what he has learned from the industry about art, animation and digital painting.
“I'm looking forward to hearing from Aaron about his experiences in the industry, his stories and learn from him as an artist,” said Hayley Mullins, sophomore animation major. “To be able to listen to someone like him with his resume is an honor!"
Housed in the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts, Lipscomb’s undergraduate animation program is led by former lead Disney animator Tom Bancroft, who for more than 25 years has created animated shorts, films and features including “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Mulan” and “Brother Bear.” Housed in the Visual Arts Department in the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts, students can learn everything from character design to top-end 3D animation.
