Lipscomb University’s resident dance company, Foundation Dance Theatre, in conjunction with guest choreographers and theater dance classes, will host its annual spring semester dance concert, Elevate, on Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Lipscomb’s Collins Alumni Auditorium.

Elevate2018_SIDEDirected by Kari Smith and Leigh Anne Ervin, adjunct professors and co-founders of Foundation Dance Theatre, the pair have worked together all semester with students as well as guest choreographers to perfect the show.

“This year’s show and theme will seek to highlight, showcase and reflect on the important moments of our lives where we make choices and attempt to gather strength from them. Each piece represents some aspect of the show title Elevate and it’s theme ‘This is the Moment,’” said Smith.

Elevate features 35 members of Lipscomb dance classes who are dance minors, musical theater majors and students from other majors in the dance company with extensive dance backgrounds and enjoy telling stories through movement and various types of dance. Each dance piece will showcase several dance styles that include: ballet, jazz, musical theater, hip hop, modern, lyrical, contemporary and tap.

“I there are many things we are excited about this year, but I am most excited about the group of awesome dancers we have and that we get to take our dance show into Collins Auditorium for the first time,” said Smith.

Last year, the show was performed in Shamblin Theatre. Elevate was moved to a larger venue this year in order to showcase their talents to a larger audience of people, said Smith.

Ticket prices for Elevate: “This is the Moment” are $15 for adults, $10 for university faculty/staff /military and $5 for students and Lipscomb students can receive free admission for this event thanks to a sponsorship provided by the Hartselle Family Fund.
