The Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy invites the Lipscomb community and the community at-large to take advantage of two health care opportunities on Thursday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: annual flu shots and a chance to join the national bone marrow registry.

They will offer free blood pressure checks and blood glucose screenings, information on prescription drug abuse, samples of over the counter drugs and products and information on various student health care organizations.

The flu immunizations will be administered in Bennett Campus Center. Cost is $20 for a three-strain vaccine; $30 for the Thimerasol-free vaccine for patients who are pregnant or allergic to thimerasol; and $35 for the high-dose vaccine for the elderly.

There will also be a sign-up for the Be The Match Registry, for potential bone marrow donors, to help find a cure for Warren County High School student Keley Roller. Roller is a 15-year-old who has been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Ages 18 to 44 can join the bone marrow registry. New participants will need only to fill out a registration form and swab the inside of their cheek. For more information go to www.bethematch.org.

There will be about 40 Lipscomb student pharmacists involved in its two 2013 flu shot clinics. All Lipscomb student pharmacists are certified to give vaccines and many already work in retail pharmacies and have administered flu vaccines at on-campus clinics for the past three years.

The Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and prepares student pharmacists for work in community pharmacy, hospitals, specialty health care facilities and mental health facilities.
