Lipscomb community mourns the loss of freshman Isaac Phillips

The Lipscomb University and Academy communities are mourning the loss of university freshman Isaac Phillips who died early Saturday morning, Sept. 28.
A resident of High Rise Residence Hall, Phillips was a 2013 graduate of Lipscomb Academy, where he played football and baseball. This past summer, Phillips travelled to Europe as part of a special study abroad program for Lipscomb Academy graduates who attend the university.
Phillips is the son of John and Melisa Phillips of Nashville. He is survived by sisters, Cassidy, a senior at Lipscomb Academy, and Grace; brother, Sawyer; and son, Cohen.
Visitation with the Phillips’ family will take place 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in the Doris Swang Chapel in the Ezell Center. A memorial service is set for Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium.
“At tragic moments like this, we come together as a community to mourn the loss and to gather strength from each other. While many face these situations without God or a sense of purpose, we face this together with a faith that is affirmed and with a hope and a realization that God is greater than all of these circumstances,” said President L. Randolph Lowry.
The university’s counseling staff is available for those who would like assistance in dealing with their loss and can be accessed by calling Cathy Lincoln, at 615.966.6294, during business hours. After business hours and on weekends, call 615.966.1990 for counseling assistance. Campus ministers and residence hall staff members are also available to meet with those who seek their comfort.
