Racquet Club hosts community block party to announce spring programs for all ages

Janel Shoun |

The Lipscomb University Racquet Club invites families and the community to a free block party on Saturday, April 9, with an NCAA tennis match between Lipscomb and Belmont University beginning at 10 a.m. and fun activities and giveaways beginning at 3 p.m.

All ages and skill levels are welcome at the block party, held at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center, located on top of the Allen Arena West parking garage, accessible from Belmont Boulevard.

The party serves as the 2011 kick off to the club’s spring tennis programs, which include children’s and adult tennis clinics, private lessons, tournaments and events for the Nashville Area Ladies Tennis Association.

The Lipscomb Racquet Club offers to the community annual memberships providing unlimited use of the courts, a pay-as-you-play option for walk-ins and junior and adult instructional programs at prices competitive with surrounding fitness clubs.

At the block party, there will be plenty of fun activities including tennis games, wii™ tennis, face painting, music, prizes and giveaways, food and an information booth on Lipscomb Racquet Club (LRC) programming and memberships.

Tennis courts are open for use from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Those using the courts should enter campus from Belmont Boulevard, park in the Allen Arena West parking garage and enter the tennis facility at the south tower.

“Currently there is not a comprehensive facility of this kind in the Green Hills area. Our hope is that with this new tennis facility, we can instruct all ages in life skills through a lifetime sport. With programs offered throughout the day, we have something for everyone,” said Andrew Harris, director of the Lipscomb Racquet Club and head coach for men's tennis.
