College of Leadership & Public Service announces new scholarship awards addressing Nashville's needs

Lipscomb University’s College of Leadership & Public Service is taking an intentional approach to addressing issues surfaced in Nashville’s recent elections in and statewide research with six new scholarship awards.
Six competitive scholarship awards will be available for students, one award for each of the following focus areas: transit and mobility, education policy, diversity and inclusion, immigration, civil discourse, and regional prosperity. The regional prosperity award will be given to a student from outside Davidson County from one of the counties represented by the Regional Mayors Caucus.
“We believe great communities—and great states—are intentional, not accidental,” said Steve Joiner, dean of the College of Leadership & Public Service. “That’s why we decided for this year to offer awards for students intentional in addressing some of the key issues raised in the last two Metro elections and others reflected in state polling and policy research.”
The college announced the awards for the 2018-2019 academic year. Recipients can apply the award to any of the three master’s programs the college offers: leadership and public service, sustainable practice or conflict management. These programs are designed to accommodate working professionals with classes meeting on weekends.
These awards will complement the college’s ongoing corporate match and awards programs for graduates of the State of Tennessee leadership programs, graduates of community leadership programs throughout Tennessee and other qualified applicants.
An information session for those wanting to learn more about the program will be held June 19 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Ezell Center, Room 359. Lunch will be provided.
Applications are due July 5 to be considered for the awards. Founded in 2016, Lipscomb’s College of Leadership & Public Service was formed to further the university’s commitment to community engagement, but also to train and equip students with a collaborative leadership approach to society’s complex challenges.
