Tickets now on sale for Singarama 2014

Tickets go on sale on campus today for Lipscomb University’s annual student variety show, Singarama, staged April 3-5. Tickets are available to the general public beginning Tuesday, March 11.

“Singarama’s On Fire,” is the theme for this year’s Singarama, featuring three student-produced mini-musicals titled:  “Stop,” “Drop” and “Roll.” Students also host the evening with a variety of musical interludes.

This year’s show will be held in Willard Collins Alumni Auditorium. Show times are 7:30 p.m. each night with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for Thursday, April 3; $15 for Friday, April 4, and Saturday’s matinee, April 5; and $20 for Saturday evening, April 5.

The first 50 Lipscomb students who purchase tickets will get a DVD of the 50th Anniversary production of Singarama in 2013, or free tickets to the Lipscomb Theatre production of “Shrek.”

This year’s directors are Makenzie Kanyuh, Aaron Joseph and Alex Shumate. Hosts and hostesses are Lincoln Mick, Mic-O Oruma, Caitlin Phelps, Lacey Printz, Tyler Russell and McKenna Smith. Student coordinators are Brittany Bishop, Hailey Parrott and Erin Wood.

The plots for this year's Singarama musicals are:

  • Stop:  A surprise theft during their morning shift inspires crossing guards Rick and Louis to go on a mission seeking justice, glory and romance.
  • Drop: Dan's fear has held him back his whole life, but when he gets an invitation to a college reunion, he must gain courage to finally drop his fear once and for all.
  • Roll: Feeling lonely, Stanley decides that a new bike is just what he needs to convince people to like him. Can Stanley roll his way into the hearts of his friends with a shiny new bike, or will fate teach him a lesson about true friendship?

Singarama has been performed for 51 years at Lipscomb and more than 16,000 students have participated over the years. Past audiences have been treated to a variety of musical styles from pop and country hits to gospel and jazz standards. The groups are judged at each performance on a number of different criteria and an overall winner is announced at the final show.
