Lifelong Learning Program goes global with new program

The Lifelong Learning Program is going global.
Beginning this fall, LLP students will have the opportunity to study abroad through a new certificate in experiential global learning program offered in partnership with the College of Professional Studies.
“This new program builds on the experiences that our students have had on the Lipscomb campus the past decade,” said Amy Hamar, director of senior alumni programs and the Lifelong Learning Program. “This is a great opportunity for our lifelong learners to learn about other cultures not only in a classroom setting, but by travelling to the places they will be learning about. It will bring that information to life.”
The program combines traditional Lifelong Learning Program classroom work with global travel. Students participating in the program will complete two five-week courses prior to the travel portion of the program. Students completing the prerequisite courses and a post-trip project in addition to the trip will earn a Certificate in European Studies.
“These courses will give students a background in the culture of the regions we will visit to enhance their experience when we are travelling,” said Hamar.
The first travel study program, set for Nov. 15-26, will focus on Central Europe with an emphasis on Italy and Austria. Highlights of the excursion include a tour of Milano and Venice, Italy; a cruise on Lake Maggiore; sightseeing in Busseto, Italy, hometown of composer Giuseppe Verdi; a walking tour of Salzburg, Austria; dinner at the Salzburg Castle; a performance of Mozart’s “Magic Flute” at the Vienna Opera; and a pre-Thanksgiving meal with Lipscomb in Vienna students. The trip will be hosted by John Parker, recently retired professor of English, and his wife, Jill, recently retired professor of chemistry.
Prerequisite classes are $60 each. The travel portion of the program cost begins at $4,286 and includes airfare, accommodations, activities and some meals.
