Lipscomb University received several recognitions from the 2018 College Factual rankings of four year colleges and universities across the country. Lipscomb earned notable rankings as the best accounting program in Tennessee and the second-best school for veteran friendliness in Tennessee.

The department of accounting within Lipscomb’s College of Business ranked 47th in the nation and as the number one accounting program in Tennessee for the second consecutive year. Lipscomb accounting majors enjoy a 100 percent placement rate post-graduation for employment and master’s programs, and attain the credentials required to sit for the Certified Professional Accountant exam.

College Factual 4The department of accounting also earned a ranking of 12th in the nation and number one in the state of Tennessee for the second consecutive year for Best Accounting Programs for Veterans.

“We are thrilled by these rankings,” said Brian Masterson, chair of accounting, finance and economics in the College of Business. “It validates that the changes we’ve made in respect to curriculum, culture of the program and our faculty hires are moving in a positive direction.”

“We are really about creating the best experience for our students to prepare them as professionals. This includes our nation's heroes. We fully support our veteran students within the accounting program and understand that sometimes they have experiences and perspectives that are unique to traditional students. Our success is based on a simple concept; place the students first in all you do, and the rest takes care of itself,” said Masterson.

Lipscomb University also placed as the second best program in the state of Tennessee for Veteran Friendliness, and in the top 13 percent for Veteran Friendliness in the nation. Lipscomb improved its national ranking by 38 positions from the 2017 rankings. Through support to veterans such as tuition matching for the cost not covered by the Post 9-11/G.I. Bill for qualifying veterans through the Yellow Ribbon Program, Lipscomb prioritizes our veterans.

College Factual 1"It's wonderful to be recognized however, our focus remains on our students,” said Chad Staggs, director of Veteran Services. “My staff is dedicated and committed to assisting our students needs.  They take great pride in helping them develop academically, personally, professionally and spiritually.

“We have been blessed to have a full slate of resources to assist our students in reaching their goals and addressing any situation that may arise along the way.  We want to see them graduate and be prepared for the next chapter of their lives,” said Staggs.

College Factual is known for its unique methodology to produce its rankings, going beyond the usual means to determine university success and diving down to the “nitty gritty.” Utilizing metrics to rank majors such as early career earning and mid career earnings, percentage of students to choose specific majors, accreditation, overall school quality, College Factual produces a real world evaluation for prospective students.

College Factual now works with Military Times to produce its veteran rankings. Colleges do not have the choice to opt out of veterans rankings as College Factual does not pull its data from surveys. Metrics utilized include whether housing costs are covered above and beyond the Post 9-11/G.I. Bill benefits, whether tuition and fees are covered, and whether active duty tuition assistance is covered beyond the cap.

Additionally, they factor in state versus out of state tuition costs and whether these are waived for veterans. Further, they account for the size of the veteran population, flexibility for veterans, veteran related policies and resources provided to the nation’s heroes.

“College Factual is the deepest resource on the planet for prospective students making decisions about U.S. colleges,” said co-founder and chief executive officer Bill Phelan. “There are over 63,000 choices a prospective student can make to study a specific major or program at one of 2,400 U.S. colleges and universities. College Factual analyzes every one of them.”

Lipscomb’s rankings on College Factual show the university’s standing amongst other academic institutions and communicates to prospective students from across the U.S. and 150 different countries that a degree from Lipscomb lays the foundation to success as professionals.
