Burt Nowers named CEO-in-residence for Center for Business as Mission

Lipscomb University’s College of Business has named local business leader Burt Nowers CEO-in-residence in its Center for Business as Mission.
In this role, Nowers will work with Rob Touchstone, director of Lipscomb’s Center for Business as Mission, in the classroom and will help enhance the program’s existing mission opportunities for students.
“Our focus on Business As Mission is designed to teach students both academically and experientially,” said Touchstone. “Burt brings tremendous depth to our efforts in both of these. As we train students to think missionally about business, Burt is able to draw from his vast experiences ranging from the complexities faced in the boardroom all the way to the challenges faced on the ground in developing countries.”
“In addition he will bring his global connectivity to help explore new areas where students can practice Business As Mission,” he continued. “Burt’s connectivity, experience and heart for mission is truly a gift to both our program and our students.”
A Certified Public Accountant, Nowers is one of the founders of AIM Healthcare in Franklin, Tennessee, where he spent 14 years as chief financial officer. He was a member of the board of Healing Hands International since 2005 and served as its president from 2012-2016.
“The partnership with Burt is great news for the College of Business,” said Ray Eldridge, dean of the College of Business. “He will be an excellent role model, mentor and resource for the Center for Business as Mission. He is also a successful business person who also understands the power of business for doing good and for growing the Kingdom.”
Launched in 2015, the Center for Business as Mission is designed to provide mentoring, education and hands-on experience for students that intersects faith, career, culture and entrepreneurial thinking. Students have opportunities to engage in local and global outreach opportunities, and to integrate their faith into their daily business endeavors.
A graduate of Lipscomb University, Nowers said he looks forward to returning to his alma mater.
“I’m excited to join Rob and the work of the Center for Business as Mission,” he said. “I’m looking forward to helping students develop their passion for living their faith in the business world, both here and in developing nations.”
In addition, Nowers chairs the board of directors of the Central European Christian Education Foundation and serves as an elder of the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ in Nashville.
