On Saturday morning Steven Kleinschmidt was working his shift at the Student Activities Center when, during a slow period, he happened to check Twitter.
A post by @gracerandles from July 27 caught his attention. “What if my future husbands last name doesn’t make a cute pun for our wedding hashtag…… like this is the stuff that keeps me up at night.”

Kleinschmidt found her post amusing as he thought about his own 12-letter, often mispronounced last name.
“Jokingly, I said I wanted to apologize to my future wife because Kleinschmidt doesn't give a lot of cute wedding hashtags,” said Kleinschmidt, a junior mechanical engineering major from Lilburn, Georgia. He is also a resident assistant in High Rise residence hall and is a member of Tau Phi men’s social club.
So, at 10:11 a.m. on July 29, Kleinschmidt — or @StevenMK30 to his followers — posted his clever response to @gracerandles comment. “I wanna apologize now to my future wife,” he wrote.

After posting his response, Kleinschmidt went back to work and didn’t think much more about his post.
“I thought I might get five likes max,” he admits. “Next thing I know, my phone won't stop going off, and the tweet is exploding.”
As of 9:33 a.m. July 31, Kleinschmidt’s eight word, 39 character post, has accumulated 518 comments, has been retweeted 59,231 times and has 342,975 likes from individuals around the world.
“Eventually I had to turn off my notifications,” he said. “I mainly think it’s funny how much attention it’s attracted. A lot of kind people from Twitter gave me some good ideas for a wedding hashtag!”
