Career-minded women of all ages will have a unique opportunity to get free advice on enhancing their networking skills as well as a look at the latest trends in business fashion at the second annual Professional Women’s Event Nov. 7 at Lipscomb University.

Business DressThe Professional Women’s Event, sponsored by the university’s College of Business and fashion merchandise program, is designed to examine “beauty from the inside out” and to build confidence in career women or students who will soon enter the job market, said Leanne Smith, assistant professor of management at Lipscomb and event coordinator.

“Young women on our campus and in our community often need guidance on how to present themselves in a professional manner,” said Smith. “When women present themselves professionally, their self-confidence increases and it builds their credibility as competent individuals who play vital roles in their organizations.”

The event features an opportunity for attendees to network, a panel discussion about what defines “beauty” and a fashion show featuring Lipscomb University students modeling the latest trends in women’s business attire.

“Women especially tend to be very critical of themselves,” said Smith. “We want to remind people, through this event, of what real beauty is. We want women to leave the event with a feeling that they are more beautiful than they thought they were… and maybe even in ways they don’t expect.”

The event begins at 7 p.m. in Lipscomb’s Shamblin Theatre, located in the university’s Bennett Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public. However, clothing and monetary donations benefitting ThriftSmart will be accepted at the door.
