Phipps earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Montana. Shortly after this, he joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ where he served for three years. He then returned to school and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky. After completing this, he went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences also from the University of Kentucky. Phipps was a faculty member at Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy prior to joining Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy in 2009. His areas of instruction here in the college include pharmacology, physiology, IBS lab, and microbiology. He has participated in several college-sponsored pharmacy mission trips to Honduras, and also serves as the advisor for the college's chapter of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International.
