ENGAGE Youth Theology Initiative
The ENGAGE summer residency will take place on Lipscomb’s campus July 7-16, 2021
Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 ENGAGE Youth Theology Initiative, scheduled for July 7-16, 2021. ENGAGE is a unique pre-college program hosted by Lipscomb’s College of Bible and Ministry, during which high school students from all over the nation gather to explore questions around theology, faith, and contemporary issues. For ten days, students from diverse backgrounds will examine the call to racial justice and healing; the histories of both the church and U.S. Civil Rights movement; and what it means to live a life of Christian leadership and service.
Students spend three days traveling on the “Bus Ride to Justice” pilgrimage, visiting various sites and memorials of the U.S. Civil Rights movement throughout Alabama. Students then spend seven days on Lipscomb’s campus, studying Scripture, theology, conflict transformation and exploring vocational possibilities with college professors.
Young people today are eager to discover how their faith and vocation can connect to real-world issues in the here and now. The ENGAGE Youth Theology Initiative teaches students how they—using the skills and talents God has given them—can become the change they wish to see in the world.
At this time, we are hopeful that we will be able to safely host an in-person event in July. However, any changes in these plans will be communicated at least 30-days in advance, unless changes in governmental regulations or CDC recommendations require more immediate action.
Lilly Endowment, Inc. has pledged to financially support the work of ENGAGE Youth Theology Initiative as we launch this brand new program for high school students at Lipscomb University. However, we desire to keep the summer academy going well beyond the life of the Lilly grant. To that end, we are accepting donations from individual sponsors, churches, corporations, and non-profits who would like to partner with us in developing the next generation of theologically minded and socially engaged young people. Your tax-deductible gift will go directly toward the development and sustainability of ENGAGE. We thank you for contributing to this worthy initiative.
