October 26, 2023
2:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m. (Central Time)

Today’s students present a new set of challenges for educators. Approximately 64% of adults report having experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) before age 18 (CDC, 2023). High levels of ACEs coupled with post-pandemic stress can create student behaviors that do not respond to traditional classroom management strategies. In this webinar, we will present examples of current student behaviors and provide strategies for creating a positive, functional, and joyful environment for both students and teachers.

LEAD Conference, Pre-Conference Session: Working with Adult Learners
Sunday, October 23, 2016
2:00-5:00 pm
Music City Center, Nashville, TN
Open to conference attendees and other guests
Engaging with adult learners is part of every school leader’s role. But how does a school leader approach adults in a way that will lead to transformational growth? This session, Working with Adult Learners, brought to you by the Ayers Institute for Teacher Learning and Innovation, blends the principles of adult learning theory with the idea of approaching all learners with a coaching mindset. In this way, school leaders can begin to build a school culture that is grounded in trust and professional inquiry. This session will explore conversational strategies of listening to understand; presuming positive intent; the value of norms; and the importance of collaboration. Additionally, participants will consider the connection between these important principles to the TEAM Administrator Evaluation tool.
Session facilitators are Rachael Milligan, Karen Marklein, and Julia Osteen—each of whom is an experienced coach, a faculty member in Lipscomb’s College of Education, and a former K-12 educator. Come and learn practical strategies for building capacity in all educators in your building.
