For international students whose first language is not English, we offer a dynamic, full-time intensive English program on our beautiful Nashville campus. We believe our program is unique, allowing you to improve your academic English whilst fully participating in campus life. If you are an international student requiring an I-20 / student visa to study in the United States, you must participate in the EAP Program on a full-time basis. Please contact us for questions or more information.
Part-time EAP Classes
An option to participate in EAP courses on a part-time basis exists for those already living and working in the United States or who hold a valid visa. Current Lipscomb University students whose first language is not English may also participate. Courses are offered throughout the week and provide students opportunities to refine language skills that support their academic and professional goals. We have courses to meet a variety of needs - from au pairs who want to improve their English conversation to professionals looking to improve their writing skills. Please click here for details about how to apply to the part-time. Special pricing is available for part-time participants.
Certificate in English for Academic Purposes
Students who participate in EAP on a full-time basis are in a non-degree, certificate program.
In order to complete the full-time program and receive a certificate, you must:
- keep your passport, visa and/or I-20 current and valid
- follow Lipscomb University’s academic policies
- maintain a grade of “C” or better in each course
- participate full-time for one semester minimum up to four semesters maximum*
- achieve a TOEFL or IELTS score that meets current admission requirements
Upon completion of the above requirements, the university will issue a Certificate in English for Academic Purposes. Note: Students enrolled in EAP courses will not receive credit towards graduation, nor will the courses affect GPA.
*At the end of four semesters, students who have not completed the specified requirements for the program will not be allowed to continue in the program and no certificate will be issued.
Academic Support On Campus
We want you to be successful in your academic goals. We will give you the support and resources you will need to develop strong academic language skills through EAP’s specialized courses and academic advising. For academic support outside the classroom, the Academic Success Center (ASC) on campus can help you by providing academic coaching, peer tutoring, collaborative study spaces, and The Writing Studio. Additionally, you have the opportunity to be paired with a student and/or faculty member as a conversation partner each semester.
