Applying for Aid

There is a path to affording a life-changing education.

Lipscomb University wants to make the collegiate financial aid process as simple and seamless as possible for you and your family. We strive to make the financial details straightforward and feasible for each of our students’ situations.

Whatever level of education or intended area of study you’re pursuing, the first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This will report an appropriate amount of aid needed for each student and is required to receive any federal aid as well as most Lipscomb aid.

Our school code is 003486.

Undergraduate Aid Checklist

Step 1

Complete the FAFSA.

Fill out the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is required to receive any federal aid as well as most Lipscomb aid. The FAFSA opens beginning October 1 each year. You'll also need a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID, which you can create here

The FSA ID is your electronic signature that allows you to “sign” forms like the FAFSA. Keep this ID in a safe place as you’ll need it to complete your FAFSA each year.

To ensure that your tax return information is entered correctly, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool available in the Financial Information section of the FAFSA. After completing a few yes/no questions about your tax returns, if you are eligible to use the Data Retrieval Tool a box will show up that says "Link to the IRS." Click this button to access your tax information through the IRS website. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool can only be used for tax filers whose tax returns have been processed by the IRS.

Step 2

Let us know where else your aid is coming from.

Notify the Office of Financial Aid of any outside grants or scholarships. If you are receiving any benefits externally, the Office of Financial Aid can apply these awards to your bill as expected payments to help you satisfy your account.

Step 3

Complete any loan applications.

Apply for a Federal Stafford Loan, PLUS Loan or private loans. Learn more about loans here. Please note that you may have to accept loans in order for them to be applied to your bill.

Step 4

Review and accept your awards.

  1. Log into your myLipscomb account using your username and password.
  2. Under the Launchpad section, select “Student Homepage,” then “Financial Aid Awards.”
  3. To view and accept your award, click the drop down bar to enter the aid year. You can then view the different options.
  4. Accept the Terms and Conditions underneath the “Terms and Conditions” tab, and then click the “Accept Award Offer” tab to view your aid.
Step 5

Fulfill loan requirements.

Loan requirements can be completed by logging into www.studentloans.gov.

Federal Stafford Loans: If you are a first-time borrower or a first-time borrower at Lipscomb, you must complete…

  • Federal Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling
  • Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)

Parent PLUS Loan: Once approved, the parent must sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN).

Applying for Summer Aid

We're also here to help with the cost of taking classes during the summer months. In order to receive any aid, you must be enrolled in at least 6 hours during the summer. To apply for aid, you must have filed a FAFSA for the current school year and submit an online summer aid application via myLipscomb. Once we have the application and confirm enrollment for at least 6 hours, our office will apply aid to your account for summer.

All students will need to fill out the Summer Aid Application before we can apply aid to their account for the summer.

  • Log on to myLipscomb and click Resources in the Launchpad
  • Select Financial Aid
  • Click Summer Aid Application found in the forms subsection of the Financial Aid Menu, the click your appropriate study level (undergraduate or graduate)

It will take us approximately one week to process your application and offer your aid for the summer. Remember that if you are requesting loans for the summer, you must log back into MyLipscomb and accept the loans under My Awards before they will show up on your student bill.
