The Lipscomb Academy Varsity Football Team added a former NFL player to its staff recently, hiring Marc Mariani as a varsity assistant.

Mariani, a wide receiver and return specialist, played collegiately at Montana where he finished as one of the most decorated receivers in school history, setting records in career receiving yards (3,018), receiving touchdowns (29) and career all-purpose yards (5,441). Following his collegiate career, the Tennessee Titans selected Mariani in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Mariani went on to spend seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears and was named to the NFL’s Pro Bowl his rookie season as a return specialist.

“Marc is an exceptional young man who has played football at the highest levels quite successfully,” said Varsity Football Coach Scott Tillman. “Marc is a talented communicator and teacher who will provide our student-athletes with great perspective and guidance on commitment, determination and perseverance.”

As an assistant, Mariani will primarily work with the varsity kick/punt returners as well as receivers.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Lipscomb Academy Football this fall,” said Mariani. “I have gotten to know many individuals inside the program over the years, and it is an honor to be a part of the team. Lipscomb Academy has an amazing faith-based culture and has set a high standard of excellence that aligns with my personality and goals in life. I am excited to help the guys succeed on and off the field.”

Mariani and his wife, Carly, recently moved back to Nashville and look forward to being part of the Nashville community.
