Pair of Mustang Defenders Selected for All-State Soccer Team

For the Lipscomb Academy soccer program, a winning record wasn’t the only exciting achievement last season. The Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association recently named Bennie Harris and Reid Weber, two standout members of the 2013-2014 varsity squad, to its all-state team.

Harris and Weber, both defenders, were crucial members of last year’s team. Harris set a single season school record with 13 assists and Weber scored 11 goals, a rare feat for a defensive player. In addition, Lipscomb Academy was the only school in its division to have two defenders named to the all-state team.

“Being recognized as all-state players is a tremendous honor for both Bennie and Reid and is well deserved after their play last season,” said Nathan Proffitt, Lipscomb Academy’s varsity soccer coach. “I’d like to congratulate both young men for their hard work, dedication and commitment to living for Christ both on and off the field.”

In addition to being named to the all-state team, Harris and Weber have received several other district and regional designations for the 2013-2014 soccer season.

  • Co-offensive player of the year for District 10
  • All-district tournament team
  • All-district regular season

  • Co-MVP for District 10
  • All region
  • All-district tournament team
  • All-district regular season
  • McAdams Trophy winner, awarded to the Academy’s Male Athlete of the Year

Harris, a rising junior, will play for Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross, Ga., this season. Reid, a recent Lipscomb Academy graduate, is starting his freshman year at Lipscomb University this fall.
