A story of Mabel Tidings, an extraordinary ninety-year-old woman, and the saga of her life. Mabel is hosting a Fourth of July croquet party for her friends because her granddaughter and great-granddaughter are visiting from Paris. She is taken back at various points in the play to significant events in her life, including her childhood in Prideís Crossing, Massachusetts, her unhappy marriage, and the day she swims the English Channel.
