Scott McDowellScott McDowell, Ed.D.
Senior Vice President for Student Life

Scott McDowell earned his undergraduate degree from Freed-Hardeman University and continued his education at Lipscomb, earning a Master of Arts in Religion. He earned his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. McDowell directs the Office of Campus Life. Dean of Student Life
Behavioral Intervention Team, Campus Recreation, Residence Life, Student Activities and Student Conduct

Prior to his work as the Associate Dean of Campus Life, Smith served as the Chapel Coordinator, Assistant Head Resident of High Rise, and Head Resident of Sewell Hall.  He earned a B.A. and M.A. in Biblical studies from Lipscomb University and a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Union University.  Sam and his family (wife Lisa, daughter Brooklyn, and sons Bear and Boden) live near campus and experience the pulse of the student body by programming, building relationships, and mentoring students.  Sam’s enthusiasm for student development and excitement for true Kingdom living drive his passion for his work at Lipscomb.

Sarah Keith GambleSarah Keith Gamble
Associate Dean of Student Life

A graduate of Lipscomb University, Sarah Keith earned a master of arts in psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. She is the director of ADVANCE, the first component of the university's undergraduate orientation program and is a member of the leadership team that coordinates QuestWeek and New Student Express, the fall orientation programs for new undergraduate students. Sarah Keith also coordinates the annual Spring Service Day; is coordinator of the Lipscomb Care Team, an initiative designed to provide pastoral care to Lipscomb students who need encouragement and support in times of stress or grief; and is a member of the Lipscomb Homecoming Committee. In addition, since 1985 Sarah Keith has served as coordinator/producer of Singarama, Lipscomb's annual musical show. She is a member of the National Orientation Directors Association and was the inaugural recipient of the SGA Faculty-Staff Recognition Award and is a past winner of Lipscomb’s Outstanding Staff Member Award. Sarah Keith loves working with college students and feels very blessed to have the opportunity to do so.

Jake is a native from Atlanta, GA and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Lipscomb in 2009. Jake joined the team to pioneer the new mentoring program called "The Joshua Project."

Residence Hall Director Johnson

Caroline joined the Residence Life team in July 2011 as the Residence Hall Director for Johnson Hall. Prior to this appointment, she was a Residence Assistant 
in Elam for 2 years. Caroline is graduating in May 2012 from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business. Caroline received the Sarah Keith Gamble Award of Exellence in 2011. During undergrad, Caroline traveled to Ghana, West Africa the summers of 2009, 2010, and was the student Team Leader for the trip in 2011. She is passionate about international missions and hopes to one day return to Africa and start an orphanage.

Kathy Meadows
Executive Assistant  

Kathy’s is one of the first faces you see when you enter the Office of Student Life.  She and her husband Phil met at Freed-Hardeman University where she received an undergraduate degree in Communications.  She later attended Murray State in Kentucky and received a degree in Broadcasting.  Kathy joined the Student Life staff in September 2012 and enjoys hiking, photography and spending time with her husband and two sons.

Scott McDowellApril Herrington
Veteran's Affairs Certifying Official


April Herrington is the VA Certifying Official at Lipscomb University.  In this position, April provides assistance to Veteran students with responsibility for, but not limited to, recruitment and retention, advising and VA certifications.  She also serves as the Staff Advisor for the Campus Veterans Organization where she facilitates national and international volunteerism through Veterans support. Prior to Lipscomb, Staff Sergeant April Herrington served seven years in the United States Air Force as an Airborne Surveillance RADAR Specialist for E-3/AWACS 552nd Component Maintenance Squadron Oklahoma City OK and Protocol Specialist for the 18th Wing Okinawa JP.  Locations of service include Tinker Air Force Base and Kadena Air Base.  Throughout her tenure April was granted a Secret Security Clearance and provided support for several Higher Headquarters and Presidential Support Missions. April attended University of Maryland, Community College of the Air Force and Lipscomb University as a Yellow Ribbon student and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. A native of Arlington, Texas, April is the wife of Brandon Herrington (United States Air Force Enlisted Accessions Recruiter) and proud mother of daughter, Lorelai.  The Herrington family currently resides in Mount Juliet, TN and attends Corinth Church of Christ in Mount Juliet.

Associate Director of Student Advocacy

Melissa Lowry is Associate Director of Student Advocacy, serving as the campus life liaison for student retention. She assists in promoting student success, satisfaction and persistence for the undergraduate population. In 2009, Melissa started the Reclaim Tomorrow Center at Lipscomb University, which seeks to serve the Nashville community, providing career counseling and networking opportunities for all those in career transition. Before moving to Nashville in 2008, Melissa worked for American Airlines, Inc., as marketing manager in the AAdvantage Division, where she provided marketing and account management for over 60 AAdvantage partners. Melissa completed her Master of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University in 2004. She earned her undergraduate degree in organizational communication from Pepperdine University.

Sam obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations in 2004 and his Master of Arts in Christian Studies in 2007 from Lipscomb University. He is currently enrolled at Tennessee State University working towards an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration. Sam has worked in the Campus Life office at Lipscomb for 9 years. During this time, he has served as the Assistant Head Resident of High Rise and the Coordinator of Small Groups for Campus Ministry. Currently, Sam is the Director of Greek Life and the Residence Hall Director of Sewell Hall. He and his wife Kristina have a son named Eli (3) and a daughter named Kate (1).

Laurie has been a part residence life team for eleven years and the Residence Hall Director for Fanning Hall for the past six years. She graduated from Lipscomb University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2008. Laurie and her husband Aaron have been married for 23 years and have two children Adam, a freshman at Lipscomb University and Taylor, an eighth grader at the Lipscomb Campus School. Laurie and her family attend Tusculum Church of Christ.

Keela graduated in May 2011 from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor's degree in Communications. Keela joined the Campus Ministry team full-time in May, after working part-time as a Senior. Keela is the Chapel Coordinator and plans to pursue her Masters.

Mike Smith has been the Residence Hall Director for High Rise Hall since Fall of 2000. He graduated from Lipscomb University in 1982 and received his MBA in 2004. Mike and his wife Susan have been married for 27 years and have two grown sons Seth and Nathan. Mike and Susan attend Woodmont Hills Church of Christ.

Career Development Coordinator

Allison serves as the Career Development Coordinator. After graduating from Lipscomb University in 2003, she continued her education and received a Master's degree of Counseling at Trevecca Nazarene University. She is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor while seeing clients at AGAPE. She believes in the importance of developing a strong support system between students and staff while facilitating internships and counseling.

Monica has a Masters of Education and Bachelors degree in Finance from Lipscomb.  She is passionate about helping students reach their full potential by focusing on their professional development. In the CDC, she works to connect students to employers and assist employers in their hiring needs.  She has also worked in Talent Acquisition for Comdata Corporation recruiting for entry level and management level positions. Because of her belief in educating and assisting job seekers as they transition careers, she has volunteered with Nashville Career Transition Group. A member NACE and TACE.

Residence Hall Director Village

Jonathan graduated in May 2011 from Lipscomb University with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a minor in biology. As a student he competed four years in cross country and track and worked as a Resident Assistant from August 2008 - May 2011. Being a Resident Assistant in Sewell Hall is where he found his love for campus life and student development. Jonathan was welcomed to our team in May 2011 and is now working on his Master's degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science.
